#1 – Assassin’s Creed (2007)
Starting the series from the first part makes the most sense in many cases, but it is the other way around. Assassin’s Creed marks the beginning of the story of Desmond Miles, the main protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series, who happens to be a bartender. He gets kidnapped by agents of Abstergo Industries. Desmond gets forced to use a device that connects his mind to his ancestors’ ages ago into a reality allowing him to rewrite the history. Desmond takes control of Altair ibn-La’Ahad, who is a high-ranking member of the Assassin Brotherhood. Altair’s job is to eliminate all people corrupted by the weapon titled “Apple of Eden”, capable of mind control. The setting is set in 1191AD, during the notorious Third Crusade that tore the Holy Land apart. After ending the trial of the machine, Desmond realizes this is more than the simulations and is in deep water, more than he bargained for. Compared to its sequels, Assassin’s Creed takes a slow-paced approach towards rewriting history, then letting the player do whatever he wants. Many people will consider starting from the very first part is a good idea. It is to some extent if you need to know about the story in detail. The first title in the series, Assassin’s Creed, was released in 2007 and was well-received by the videogame community.
