Recently, Instagram announced that it is shutting down its standalone IGTV application. Along with the IGTV, Instagram is now silently shutting down the rest of its applications.
Instagram Shutting down Boomerang and Hyperlapse | Focus on the Primary App
The company announced the shutting down of the IGTV application in its official blog. However, Instagram said nothing regarding Boomerang and Hyperlapse. According to TechCrunch, Boomerang and Hyperlapse’s last day was on March 1. Twitter users KenSchillinger and WFBrother, indicate that the apps have suddenly been removed from the stores. The parent company of Instagram, Meta, explained Engadget, “We’ve removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app. We will continue working on new ways for people to be creative and have fun on Instagram.” The removal of these applications is not exactly surprising or shocking. Rather, shutting down these applications will bring stability to the main platform, Instagram. In fact, the removal makes proper sense. Instagram said that it wanted to improve the video experience of the platform for both the creators as well as the viewers. The shutting down of the application is just another move in the long-term strategy. Instagram is filled with multiple features including, Reels, Instagram IGTV, in-built Boomerang, Instagram stories, and many more. We hope that the new strategy works in the favor of the company.
